Let me be very clear. I _love_ to compete. At most anything. Football in high
school. Karate until 1994 or so. Computer Chess since 1968. I coached and
played on a departmental intramural basketball team until that same 1994 period
where my knee doc said "stop with the kicking and with the running up and down a
hard court".

I always considered the ACM events the highlight of each year, until the last
one in 1994. And I hated to see them end as they were always in the US, and
were held annually. The WCCCs were harder to attend due to cost and time. And
over the past few years they have gotten _much_ worse stretching out well over a
week plus travel time...

So I'm all for playing. I've played in all the CCTs I think. I play in the
author's only tournament when I can. So be assured that there is nothing I
would like better than to play in every event that comes along. But the ICCA is
_not_ making it easy. They offer more obstacles than help, in reality, due to a
lack of planning. IE do you know when the rounds of the WCCC will be played,
time-wise? Neither do I. And neither do they, yet. Couldn't _that_ be planned
a bit further in advance? I have to ask a vendor to give me access to hardware
but when he asks "when?" I have to say "I know the days, but not the times, and
I don't know whether they will do a playoff or not if there is a tie, and so
forth." Cray would have _never_ given me machine time without significant
advance notice of exact dates and times. This makes the hardware question much
more complicated. IE if it happens to be AMD, and games are at night US time,
it will be easy. If games are during the day, it will be much harder. If I
don't even know exactly when, it will be harder still...
