I am a retired person with limited experience playing chess and would like to buy a computer software program. (The idea of playing against my PC seems fascinating.) My PC is relatively new and probably a low end eMachine T2542. The machine has 512 meg of memory, an Intel Celeron 2.5 GHz processor, and the "Intel Extreme Graphics 3D 64 MB Shared Memory". Running Windows XP Home. As I understand it, the Fritz 8 program can be played in two "modes". The "high-resolution textured virtual reality board" requires DirectX 8.0 or higher and a graphic accelerator. Otherwise, I would use the "old 3D board" which has a simpler virtual reality board. My questions are the following. Would Fritz 8 run on my PC in either or both of the above "modes"? Would the "response time" be reasonable"? Is Fritz 8 a good software package to buy or would you recommend some other package? Thanks very much for any information or suggestions. Gary
