For Rybka, the best Euro/node/second solution was an Amd64 2800+ system, with the 3200+ close behind. (The 3000+ has 512 MB L2, so for a rotated bitboard program I don't think it would do so well - but I haven't tested this.) While it makes sense to think like this when building a pure testing system, for personal use (or tournaments) I think most people are ready to pay 25% more to get a 10% speedup.
