Easy to do if you know what you are doing.

I used to make extra money a long time ago by testing and trouble shooting tons
of used computer equipment and putting together systems for a buddy of mine, so
I'm extremely well versed in the topic.

You might get lucky with putting togther your system. However, the problem comes
when something goes awry. You either won't know how to trouble shoot or will
lack the resources to do so properly.

You should take your friends advice.
