Choosing a program is very difficult, at least for me. I like a lot of programs
for different things! Basically, I like Rebel12, Hiarcs and Chess Tiger for the
style of play! Rebel12 and Hiarcs are usually considered to play more
'human-like' games, whatever that really means for a computer, than lets say
Fritz.

I did a test on the problems Shredder 8 solves that Shredder 7 didn't solve or
took ages to solve (from the shredder web, probably chess base?). Specially in
passed pawns 'potential' knowledge, Rebel 12 was already doing those almost 1
year before! One of the problems Rebel did not solve. Also, Rebel (like
Shredder) is probably some of the most customizable engines.

Rebel12 comes under Chesspartner interface (you can get dos versions for free,
with the old classical interface, which was really advanced for its time!, but
they don't work under XP).

As far as I know, Rebel is one of the few programs out there made in assembler!
That is crazy... but... it does give some wonderful results.

I like Chessmaster for the tutorials. I like Chess Assistant as a database.
Every program is good in some area, usually, and lacks a bit in others.

Also, I like 'old-timers'. I loved MChess when I had that long time ago, and I
loved Genius, so, I got Genius 7 and Genius for palm (Arm). Now my problem, in
the palm is, that as I have got Chess Tiger for palm, I have to choose between
them and that is difficult!

Best wishes, Bruce
