You might try disabling other software temporarily such as your antivirus and
firewall to see if they are interfering at computer startup. Also look at your
list of running processes via Ctrl-Alt-Delete to see if there's anything unusual
- for example multiple instances of the chess engine or GUI.

I have found a lot of bugs and quirks with Shredder 8, particularly with the
chessbase GUI that comes on the CD. Remember: It was designed primarily for
Fritz, and if other engines work OK, you're just lucky! They don't debug the
chessbase GUI very well with other engines, obviously. There are fewer problems
with Shredder 8 when using the classic Shredder GUI or another UCI interface.
