1. The English generally leads to blocked positions. Particularly if the
opponent desires that. I avoid it for that reason.
2. The Sicilian has lots of very precise and thin lines that have to be walked.
The commercial bookmakers have spent lots of time, particularly in the
"castle-opposite" variations. Rather than work on book counter-measures, I
simply choose to avoid those lines completely.
