A while back I came across and article that talked about running high computation code off of a GPU. Has anyone here looked into, use, or considered possibly writing chess code utilizing modern GPU's? One of the specs that was mentioned that a single GeForce 4 if the code was fine tuned properly would be equivalent to an x86 10ghz processor. While I find that number to be high, it still seems interesting if you could possibly do this for engines. If it's even 1/4 true, imagine having a couple video cards in a single box and using that for tree crunching. Any thoughts, comments or flames? Sincerely, Joshua Shriver P.S. I'll look up the website, one professor is actually writing a C library to utilize NVidia GPU's for floating point and vector calculations.
