There was an ugly solution at the time the first buggy Windows 95 versions
entered the market. It is VERY user unfriendly but it worked every time. I
forgot if the trick works on W2000 or not, but you could try. Here is a
copy&paste from the README file of an older Rebel.

        Windows 95/98 (F8 trick)
        ------------------------

        - Start / Restart your computer.
        - Press F8 as soon as "Starting Windows 95/98" appears.
        - Select MSDOS SAFE mode from the menu.
        - Load your mouse driver (MOUSE.COM, LH MOUSE etc.)
        - Start the program with REBEL.EXE from the installed directory.
        - You have started REBEL with the strongest settings.

        We do not advice this trick since it is very user unfriendly.

        However REBEL will run 3-5% faster because the lack of
        Windows.

There is a second trick even more ugly, that is to create a "boot-disk". By head
do the following steps:

1) Format a floppy disk using FORMAT A: /S

2) Create an AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS file with the necessary files on the
floppy.

3) Restart your PC with the boot disk inside.

Contents AUTOEXEC.BAT

@ECHO OFF
PROMPT $P$G
PATH C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND;C:\DOS;
LOADHIGH DOSKEY
LOADHIGH MOUSE

Contents CONFIG.SYS

DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\setver.exe
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS NOVCPI /FRAME=E000
DOS=HIGH,UMB
files = 50

===========

These 2 solutions completely bypass Windows, if they don't work trash Rebel 12
for DOS.

Good luck,

Ed
