hi Don >What I am interested in doing is using a more weighted wood set. Curious if the >boards sensory receptors are sensitive to different strengths in the magnet i have used several different sets of magnetic chess pieces with the GM they will all work its not like the Tasc board or the Mephisto Bavaria board which offer" piece recognition" and so each piece has a different magnetic coil and can only be used for these boards. i have even used a small magnetic set with the GM..it works .Excalibur had a great idea with the tournament size >electronic table top, however... because the pieces are cheap plastic and the >board the same, the set is now being sold new for $100.00. actually what Excalibur was trying to do was offer for the first time, a full sized tournament auto-sensory board, with the white and green buff squares in the same vinyl and using the same heavy plastic pieces that are used in many USCF chess tournaments today if you have played in a typical USCF weekend tournament in the States the board(vinyl only) and pieces are exactly as the ones used in the GM you might find it of interest to note that the chess program contained in your GM was written by the same programmer who wrote the very first chess program to be sold to the public...27 years ago Steve
