Thanks, all. My old Fidelity is a Sensory Chess Challenger 8 and it remembers pieces in the c.p.u. and allows setting up the pieces anywhere (for chess problems, mate in two etc.). Absolutely any pieces of any weight could be used, for instance tiny pieces of labeled paper of no weight would function OK, including 24 hour computer thinking play by email mode. Since its of 1980s era, the c.p.u. is very very slow in its thinking... Pressing down on the board's from and to squares tells the machine how you are moving each move from the opening position be it a standard game or a setup problem entered manually.
