Bruce Moreland (author of Gerbil), has a mind of many rooms, many, many rooms, indeed. He does write clear instructional info on his website, however. Be sure to d/l and study them. But just * try * to find the light switch to help you grok his code -- Yikes!! Just * why * he can't use the same (and obviously correct) semi polish notation for naming his variables, as I myself prefer, is a complete mystery. :) Hyatt has a very good write up also on board representations for chess. I believe Swafford does as well, iirc. Have you checked these out? Decided which representation you like, yet? Dave
