Right now I'm using stock gcc 3.3 that comes with OS X 10.2
A while back IBM was releasing their xlc compiler for free as part of a beta
test program.
I did try compiling with it, and found some nice speed increases, but since they
released the full version I dont have access to the compiler anymore.
Forget the price but it's terribly expensive, and I'm not sure about the
legality of distributing programs that have been compiled with it, so I haven't
given it much thought.
As for the makefile, here's my current version snippet added to Dr. Hyatt's
default Makefile but I'm always tweaking it.
macosx:
$(MAKE) target=LINUX \
CC=gcc CXX=g++ \
CFLAGS='$(CFLAGS) -DFAST -O3 -Wall -DSMP -DCPUS=2 \
-fomit-frame-pointer -funroll-all-loops \
-finline-functions -ffast-math -DMUTEX -DPOSIX' \
CXFLAGS='$(CFLAGS) -Wall -O3 ' \
LIBS='$(LIBS) -lstdc++' \
crafty-make
