You are eventually want to support the protover 2 commands as there is a lot
more you can do.  ie Gerbil comes with a utility called epd2wb which will run a
test suite with your engine but requires protover 2.  Andrew Wagner has
developed a move generator test that is an excellent tool to see if your move
generator has bugs but you need to support setboard (protover 2) to use it.

You seem troubled because there is a lot of code.  Keep working - when you
better understand what it does it won't seem like so much.
