I am not sure exactly which one that one would be.  There were a few that I
remember that used that format.

One that did have the letters instead of the pieces was Sargon.  The version I
have comes on a cassette tape for the TRS-80 heh.

Video Chess is for the TI994/A and it's in color!  It is pretty weak though.

Incidentally, after Apple came out with the Apple II and III, IBM worked on a
personal computer codenamed "Project Chess" and teamed up with a little unknown
company called Microsoft.  The rest is history...
