If you use a fake mail address, for the purpose of doing any sort of fraudulant activity, you can not only be charged with the fraud crime, but also for using the US Postal Service in accomplishing the fraud. IE fake mail addresses to allow you to get multiple welfare checks, multiple social security checks, multiple absentee ballots... etc... Incorrect mail addresses cause no problem... particularly for the sender. It is the recipient that has to be careful...
