Ok, there was a misunderstanding. It was not clear to me, when I wrote the post,
that you are only arguing for at most n-3 rounds. Therfore I followed up with a
larger example. Of course, it would be to tedious to me, to really work out such
a larger example with actual Swiss rules applied. It might be fun, to do a
"Monte Carlo simulation" of Swiss tournaments, and see, if an when problems
happen. Of course it is not that trival to actually translate the handbook rules
into code. The Monte Carlo part would be trivial. It might even give more
interesting insights. Like, is log2(players) really a good number of rounds (for
example when there are many good players competing). I remember in the last 2
CCT tourneys, Yace got really tough opponents in the last rounds, where the
tourney was decided.
