This is simply not possible, unless there is a serious bug in the Winboard support in Arena (which I consider very unlikely; if this were the case a lot of people would have complained a long time ago). The only difference between Gothmog in UCI and xb oard mode is the way it outputs search information and receives commands from the GUI. The parts of the engine that take care of the chess thinking (search, evaluation and time management) don't even know whether the program is running in UCI or xboard mode.
