I know there's lots of room for improvement in my eval and extensions, so that figure will probably go down rather than up as the program develops. But there seems to be little correlation in nps and quality of play. For example, MacChess 4.0 gets about 200-250k nps on my machine, yet Amateur and MacChess are about equal in strength.
