At the last CCT, I ran on 4 2.2ghz opterons. Speeds will probably average 9-10M NPS. Comparing crafty to the commercials is not easy. I know what my SMP speedup looks like, because I have run on all sorts of duals and quads. I don't see speedup reports from commercial parallel chess programs, although a few users have reported not-so-good-numbers from time to time, but it is never obvious whether the speedup problems are hardware, software or set-up induced. I don't see any need to try to predict the results. We ought to know soon enough without wasting brain-power on idle speculation... >I correct my prediction > >I predict that crafty will get 7/11. > > Junior, >>Shredder and Fritz are the clear tournament favourites IMHO - they are also the >>entries that can be expected to come up with hardware that is not *that* much >>slower than Crafty's if at all, although they are the ones who need it the >>least, but Crafty will most probably have a decent hardware advantage in all >>other games. >> >>4th or 5th place is most likely IMHO, where there is also some chance to >>outperform one of the top professionals, so 3rd would be a very nice and not >>*too* unrealistic positive extreme. >> >>6th or 7th is probably the negative extreme if things go badly. >> >>We'll find out soon ;).
