Just has to trade down to the point where the material left matches a table you
have...

Sometimes I see probes with 20+ pieces on the board.  Sometimes I see no probes
with only 10 pieces left.  It depends on what happens inside the search tree..

No.  It already does this.  There is a way to force it to not use them, but you
have to go out of your way to do so, otherwise it always uses them...
