>the question was how to distinguish between a true Mach III or a Mach III >upgraded by Fidelity (the possibility that you mentionned a few weeks ago and >which I quoted above). >I'll check with the test. ok now i understand Fidelity used model numbers for this and other reasons if they preformed a Factory authorized upgrade they would not change the original model number(label on the back of the computer) they would provide the owner with a letter or invoice mentioning the upgrade but they would retain the original model number and not replace it sometimes they would create a brand new model number if an upgrade was popular enough this can be seen with the Upgrade from the Elite A/G 2100(MODEL NUMBER 6088) to the Elite A/G V2(MODEL 6114) they created a special number 6089 for the upgraded 2100 generally however they would not change the model number this is true of the Mach III to Mach IV IN SUMMARY.. if your Excel has a model number 6097(Mach II) but preforms like the Mach III on the BT test suites..then it is an upgraded Mach II but i do not think Fidelity preformed this upgrade if your computer has model number 6098 and preforms like a true Mach III on the test positions ,then it is safe to say it is a true Mach III Best Steve > >Thanks again > >Alain
