Hello Terry

Yes thats an interesting point, I wonder if this new version's 2d view will
actually be alterable by poking around in the folders and changing the piece and
board graphic files ? Having said that I dont think after shelling out £25 or so
I should have to resort to that to get an aesthetically pleasing 2d view.

I don't know if you noticed but the animated rubber pieces are available in this
demo version. It is quite amusing watching it for a game or so, but as you say
not what most people would use for a semi serious game

I also tried out the anaglyphic view, the 3d effect is reasonably convincing
with red and blue glasses. There didnt seem to be any way of changing the 3d
separation parameters etc though. I wouldn't use this view for too long, apart
from looking like an idiot with the glasses on it would give me a headache after
a little while. Too gimmicky

I have just been looking at the Winboard options, looks like the program can
import Winboard engines like the old version, except this feature is disabled in
the demo, pity :-(

I have also tried to see if I can run "The King" engine in Chess Arena as a
Winboard engine. Slightly surprisingly it does work in as far as it recognises
it as a Winboard 1 engine and plays legal moves. Unfortunately it plays in a
brain dead way, my modest little chess program is beating it 6-0 as I type :-)
It must be a config problem, I wonder if it can be overcome ?
I know the old CM9000 was awkward to set up as an external Winboard engine but
was possible.
If anyone has any joy with this, please post a message explaining how to set it
up, thanks.

         Regards Geoff
