I believe that is true only during the provisional period  - rating will equal
(ave opp rating-400) plus number of points x 800 dive by number of games...

e.g.,

opp rating   point
2000           0
2200           .5
2400            1

ave = (2200-400)+(1.5* 800)/3= 2200

so now if you play 1600 opponent and win

2000           0
2200           .5
2400            1
1600            1

ave = (2050-400)+(2.5* 800)/4= 2150

so you win the 4th game and lose 50 points - once your rating becomes
non-provisional your rating will no longer be calculated this way.

This generally is around 20 games, but I am not familiar with FICS specific
rating system.
