Subject: performance profiling tools (somewhat OT)

Now that i have a working engine in C, it's time for me to start thinking about
tuning it. however I have pretty much no experience on the tools to use for
this. I've used the Red-Gat ANTS profiler for .NET before, but nothing for C.

I saw a post earlier today where someone had profiled the amount of time crafty
spent in each function. That is the sort of data it would be great for me to
have.

I'm using Visual Studio .NET, but compiling without using managed code.

What do people feel are the most useful tools out there for getting that sort of
information. free would be best, but i'd also be willing to pay if it's
considerable better than any of the free tools.

Thanks,
Eric Oldre
