This is a biggy. A real biggy! Microsoft are warning against using Internet Explorer until they create a fix/patch for the latest flaw found in it!! Read this from the BBC:- http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/3840101.stm and this from Microsoft:- http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/download_ject.mspx Almost unbelievable, – but I have been warning about something like this for some time, especially in my last update where I recommended switching browser to Mozilla Firefox. Its not known yet the full extent of what software levels are involved (XP and 2000 only though), as some sites indicate it only affects machines running a process called IIS. Other sites indicate it to be a problem regardless of IIS, and I hold to that view myself. Mozilla Firefox is very like Internet Explorer in many ways, but is safer as it doesn’t allow the kind of problems that IE does. Heres where it can be downloaded:- http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ Its only 4.7Mb, so no excuse even if you’ve got dial-up still. Scary stuff. It does seem a very drastic announcement from Microsoft, which means they must be taking this threat exteremly seriously. Im off now to sell my PC, and buy an abacus and a carrier pigeon. If you have any queries, or would like a helping hand with anything raised here, please contact me. Alistair. Posted be Chris.........
