First, you are comparing two different things, home user vs. commercial user. The 51 updates are updates that you would need if you were running a commercial server. Only about half of the Linux updates are updates that home users need. I suspect that you're not running a commercial server from your home computer under Windows XP. If you were running all manner of servers, the number would be higher than 53. Second, the Linux updates are individual, while many Windows updates are cumulative. How many of those 53 updates are "cumulative updates", and how many individual updates are included in each cumulative update? If you counted a sinlge cumulative update, the actual number of Windows updates goes up. Third, the Linux updates contain updates for quite a few things that aren't Linux related. The Windows updates are generally related to Microsoft software. So does the 53 updates include all of the updates for non-Microsoft applications that you run? If not, the number goes up again.
