Rather than just ask, Uri, you need to see some benchmarks. Crafty may not be the very best benchmark to go by, but it's * way * better than some opinion by non-chess programmers or engineers, who have only their own opinions to go by. Not a single test, even, on any chess program. You know what the benchmarks are for crafty on the AMD CPU's. Those have been posted or referenced here, numerous times. If you're seriously looking into an Itanium2 system, search out a benchmark for crafty and see how it compares. And if you're going to be laying out that kind of money for a super system, be sure to run your own program, on that system, and on any system you're comparing it to, as well. Don't settle for opinions, or hand-waving of any kind. Surprises should not be an option. Nail it down, exactly! After all, it's your money - make the system seller earn it.
