This sounds like a great idea for those that conducted the study. However, it sounds like an (almost) complete waste of taxpayer money. The problem lies in mapping things like material difference, etc into real-world scenarios. At some level of abstraction (let's say when looking at dynamic programming techniques to solve some sort of optimization problem), there is some value added by looking at advances in chess algorithms. But the article, as it is written, does not give that impression at all. Bob
