If crafty receives the "new" command with every move, it will not perform as well as if did does not receive the "new" command. The "new" command for crafty resets everything as if is starting a "new" game. I probably error is using the word "dramtically" , let's just it is sub-optimal as compared to Crafty playing in a pure "winboard" mode (not available in Chess GUI). It may be true that for a specific machine, this weakened Crafty may still play stronger than the Chessbase native Crafty - YMMV. This is not an issue in Arena as the as the adapter does not send the "new" command under the Arena GUI.
