I use "book learning". It seems like book learning works when it is turned on. The Fritz8 and Shredder8 books that I have installed are NOT write protected. Neither is my own ctg book. They all have the recent date/time of the last game using them. And I checked with "attrib *.*" and they are not write protected. One thing that I should not do, is let many engines share the same book and share the same book learning. Other than you not using book learning, our settings are the same. But now I'm trying new settings. It's too early to tell how they will work out regarding duplicates.
