The amount of elo gained from an >additional ply search depth is about 50 (for shallow search) to 30 (for very >deep search). additional ply with heavy forward pruning does not give the same as additional ply with heavy extension. It is better to talk about speed and not about plies. I also do not know what you mean when you talk about shallow search but I guess that the ssdf games are played even at shallower than what you consider as shallow search based on your definition because programs in the ssdf earns more than 50 elo from being 2-3 times faster based on the rating for K6-450 and A1200 even after considering that the A1200 is about 3-4 times faster for most programs.
