For those who lament the demise of Ken Thompson's 6-man pawnless EGT service at http://cm.bell-labs.com/cm/cs/who/ken/chesseg.html [ which now redirects to http://cm.bell-labs.com/chessbroken.html ] it is worth noting that John Tamplin's site and service at http://chess.jaet.org/endings/ provides, under the not so experimental multi-metric window, DTC EGTs for all (and more) of the endgames addressed by Ken. The depths are consistently measured in "remaining winner's moves to goal" whatever that goal is: the cognoscenti will recall that Ken's depths were not so simple to interpret. As I have done by email, it's worth thanking Lucent's Bell Labs for providing Ken's endgame service for as long as they did after he retired from there for his second career. It would be interesting to know what endgame_services are available in addition to Rob Hyatt's ftp and John's service above. I'm sure I've lost track of some others. guy
