I assume they were sure the machine had not silently crashed and hung up?  IE
Crafty updates the display every 15 seconds to make it obvious when something
hangs.  In any case, this is not _that_ uncommon.  Bugs still happen, both at
the top and bottom...

Unfortunate to lose because of one, but there are plenty of rounds to make up
one bad loss...
