Yes, it is inflation. My subscription to the online Wall Street Journal went up from $49.00 US to $59.00. That is a 20% increase. I know that the inflation rate is not that high. The rule is--We have it, you want it---give me your money. When you consider that programmers get $50.00 to over $500.00/hr to do their thing, then the price of chess software is a bargain. You can buy Chessmaster 6000 for $30 to $40 and get a damn good game. You can get Hiarcs 7 for $115.00 and get a better game. Rebel 10 is only $59.00. Don't you remember when we were paying $149.00 for chess programs ie MChess Pro? The Mephisto Vancouver was a stand-alone unit for $11,000.00. Adjusting for inflation, todays chess programs are a steal. Just remember that the programmers have to eat also. You can get a lot of very good freeware chess software on the web but do yourself a favor and buy the commercial stuff. You get what you pay for. Respectfully, Tim Frohlick
