I have a Mac running 10.3 and have VPC 6 which runs really nice.
Guess the big question is, how strong of a player are you?

I'll agree with the other posts, the emulated machine is equivalent to a P200.
So if you're an amateur this can still be challenging. Could you consistantly
beat Fritz, Hiarcs on a P200? If so then I wouldn't use emulation.

You can use xboard and eboard on OS X :) both are nice but not Chessbase
quality.
Most engines have or can be ported ot OS X. (Would say the bulk of engines will
run on Mac, it's just the closed source -commercial ones that you cant)

Here's a small list off the top of my head:

crafty
Amy
Sjeng
Ruffian 1.0 (believe)
Ruffian 2.0 (Commercial but there is an OS X port)
Gothmog
Fruit (ported it myself)
gnuchess
TheKing (Chessmaster 4k, 5k, 6k, and 9k: commercial)
Kasparov Chess (Haven't played it, but hear it's nice)
Big Bang Chess (Fun but not for the advanced player, kind of weak but amazing
graphics).

Not native:
Chessbase engines.

So you can see there is a lot of good engines to work with.
If you need help on any of these feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,
Joshua Shriver
