An interesting game.. which I played poorly, reaching this position:

Yergin,C - Amitraute,R
2kb4/p2r2R1/1pp2p1p/8/5PQ1/3q3P/5B2/6K1 w

Analysis by Fritz 8:

1. -+ (-3.34): 40.Rg6 Qb1+ 41.Kg2 Qe4+ 42.Kg1 f5 43.Qg2 Rd1+ 44.Kh2 Kb7 45.Qxe4
fxe4 46.Rxh6 a5 47.Rh7+ Ka6 48.Kg3 Rd3+
2. -+ (-3.50): 40.Rg8 f5 41.Qg2 Kb7 42.Rg6 Qb1+ 43.Kh2 Qe4 44.Qxe4 fxe4 45.Rxh6
a5 46.Re6 Rd2
3. -+ (-3.66): 40.Rf7 Kc7 41.Rf8 Qd1+ 42.Kg2 Qxg4+ 43.hxg4 a5 44.Bh4 Be7 45.Ra8
Kb7 46.Re8
4. -+ (-3.69): 40.Qe6 Qd5 41.Qg4 f5 42.Rxd7 Qxd7 43.Qg6 a5 44.Qxh6 a4 45.Qf8
Qd1+ 46.Kg2 Qd5+

My Opponent thought I was "Busted", and Fritz certainly confirms it.

My only hope was to get the Rooks off the Board, so a few moves later,
we arrive at this position:

8/pk6/1ppq1p1p/2b5/5PQB/6KP/8/8 w - - 0 48

Analysis by Fritz 8:

1. -+ (-4.16): 48.Qg7+ Ka6 49.Qxh6 Qd3+ 50.Kg4 Qd7+ 51.Kg3 f5 52.Bf6 b5 53.Kh4
2. -+ (-5.06): 48.Qg6 Qe7 49.Qxh6 Qe2 50.Qg7+ Ka6 51.Bxf6 Bf2+ 52.Kh2 Bh4+
53.Qg2 Qxg2+ 54.Kxg2 Bxf6 55.Kg3 Kb5

Yep, Fritz still confirms I'm "Busted".

The Computer Eval, obviously takes into account many factors.. including
King Safety. But, being 'safe', also means it's out of play.

The Computer doesn't understand that the White King, Queen & Bishop
will overcome the Black Queen & Bishop!

A few moves later, we arrive at this position:

8/p5Q1/kppq1B1p/2b5/5P2/6KP/8/8 b - - 0 49

Analysis by Fritz 8:

1. -+ (-4.53): 49...Qd3+ 50.Kh4 Bf2+ 51.Kg4 Qg3+ 52.Kf5 Qxh3+ 53.Qg4 Qd3+ 54.Ke6
Qd5+ 55.Ke7 Bc5+ 56.Ke8 h5 57.Qg5
2. -+ (-3.75): 49...b5 50.Be5 Qd3+ 51.Kg4 Qe2+ 52.Kf5 Qh5+ 53.Kf6 Qh4+ 54.Ke6
Qxh3+

Fritz still thinks Black is winning.

So.. we arrive at this position:

5q2/p3b3/kpp2BQ1/6K1/5P1p/7P/8/8 w - - 0 53

1. -+ (-1.72): 53.f5 Bc5 54.Bg7 Qd8+ 55.Kh5 Kb5 56.f6 Qd5+ 57.Qg5 Qd3 58.Kxh4
2. -+ (-1.69): 53.Bxe7 Qxe7+ 54.Kh5 Qe3 55.f5 Qxh3 56.f6 Qc8 57.Kxh4 c5 58.Qg4
Qh8+ 59.Kg5 Qg8+ 60.Kf5 Qd5+

Let the Engine run as long as you want...

I think any human can quickly see that White will queen the f Pawn, and
Win!

8/p7/kp3PQ1/2p4K/7p/4q2P/8/8 b - - 0 56

Analysis by Fritz 8:

1. = (0.00): 56...Qxh3 57.f7 Qf3+ 58.Kxh4 Qf4+ 59.Kh5 Qh2+ 60.Kg5 Qe5+ 61.Qf5
Qg7+ 62.Qg6 Qf8 63.Qg8 Qe7+ 64.Kg4 Qe6+ 65.Kh4
2. ² (0.28): 56...Qe5+ 57.Kh6

  Comp. Eval shows equality.
It's obvious to any human I think, that White is Winning.

5Q2/p5Q1/kp5K/2p5/7p/7q/8/8 b - - 0 60

No further comment needed.
White Wins of course.

I would be interested if any Programmers can tell me what's going on,
and 'why', the Computers appear to totally misunderstand certain
Positions.
Thanks,
CY
