Dan,
I'm someone who may be interested in a event like this. And none of the reasons
why I'd be interested have anything to do with the perceived shortcomings of the
WCCC.

these reasons are assuming a few things about the organization of the contest.
first that the level of competition would be lower than the WCCC. mostly that
non-elite engines wouldn't be embarrased and would have a chance to win a couple
matches.

1) It could be an event that is affordable to many people who wouldn't be able
to afford a trip to the WCCC. both in terms of travel expenses and hardware
costs.

2) It would be a chance to experience a live over the board tournament.
Something with the feel of a WCCC.

3) You would get a chance to meet many of the other authors that you have
discussed chess with in this and other forums. I know many people in here have
been very helpful to me and it would be neat to meet them in person and thank
them for their contributions.
