Take a look at Amyan, it has an applet version.

as i have heard it's about 2100 ELO, but it's weaker than the non java version
(witch it's about 2400 ELO).

The main problem with Java, .NET and any language witch uses an emulated machine
it's that programs run about 10 times slower than programs compiled for an
specific processor.
