There is a long thread on rgcc on this same topic. The patch doesn't seem to work properly for most people. Results were erratic on my computer. Sometimes it will work without the CD, but the most I've gotten is four starts before I have to refresh, and it isn't always that many. Just write to Mindscape and see if version 1.03 works better.
