I visited the Bionic Impakt page and its authors claim that Crafty served only
as a sort of starting point, that everything else -- evaluation and search
included -- is a new development, and I have to take their word for it, unless
proven otherwise. I had Bionic Impakt play Crafty and even run it occasionally
on FICS; my impression is that the two are quite different. Bionic plays much
more positionally, is not as tactically alert, and needs a very fast machine to
make up for its tactical "sluggishness". But, it is by no means a tactically
weak program... If I was to estimate its potential, I'd say that it is AT LEAST
on a par with Crafty on a dual or quad Pentium. A very nice program to watch
playing, always seems to "know" what it is doing...

Djordje
