Both players likely viewed the outcome of the match as a their ticket to a possible million dollar pay day in a match with Kasparov or Kramnick. No doubt this made them extremely nervous and this was refelcted in their play. Given what was as stake, what could be offered to Adams as compensation for throwinging such a match? IMO a more likely explanation for Kasimdzhanov success is his last name starts with a letter "K" and I don't think much of that explanation either.
