I agree. That doesn't mean though that unified-hardware events in general
wouldn't make sense. Just as WCCC is a competition for the best weapon (SW/HW
combination) someone can come up with, an event on platform XYZ is a competition
for just that - the best software on platform XYZ.

Yes, a "CC tournament on platform Sparc" excludes programs not running on a
Sparc. That's neither an advantage nor a disadvantage. Afterall the programs
DONT run under that specific platform.

For the enduser of chess programs, a tournament on x86 with GHz/RAM/nCPUs
restrictions would make sense. It's just that WCCC is no such tournament.
