I just bought this unit from ebay recently - http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5906509477&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1 It was originally described on ebay as being an early 90's or late 80's model chess computer before the description was revised. I had a little chuckle with that, obviously the seller knows nothing about chess computers. I was wondering if you know much about it? I'm interested in knowing what year this was made. What I can tell you about it, is that it is definitely a Scisys computer. I opened it up and it says Scisys on the main processor but it didn't show any copyright dates. To make a move you have to punch in the ‘from’ and ‘to’ coordinates and then hit enter. The unit makes no sound, not a single beep! When I inspected the insides I confirmed that it has no device for making any sound. The original box contains no barcode! So this computer was being sold before barcodes became standard on packaging. There is no model number on the box or on the underside of the unit, it is simply known as "Tandy Computerized Chess". It does however have a catalog number - 60-2160. It requires 6 AA batteries. The unit has plenty of ventilation holes (battery muncher!). It was manufactured in Hong Kong. Unfortunatley, I do not have a manual for it and I would love to know what the FP, EP, and CB buttons do. Cheers, Tom.
