Well, yes, I think in Turing's time, the word 'computer' applied to any agent - carbon or silicon - that computed. However, today, if you talk about 'computers', people will think you are only referring to the silicon variety. The meaning of words changes, so the word you choose should be chosen in that moving context to impart whatever meaning you intend. g
