This is interesting, I'm glad you brought it up.  My program has an odd bug,
which is that it will give a mate score occasionally where no mate exists.  It
occurs in some of the test suite positions, and only after > 11 ply.  I've tried
it w/o hash tables, but it takes so long to get that deep without the hash that
I don't know if the hash is the cause or not.  I'll look into it further.
