While correspondence players certainly have more time to ponder a move compared to a GM playing over the board, I doubt that similar elo-rated correspondence players have the same level of chess understanding as GMs playing long time-control over the board versus other GMs. It is my intuitive feeling that a 2600 correspondence elo is not at the same level of chess understanding as a 2600 over-the-board elo, even with more time to think. And I feel that the level of chess understanding is what makes or breaks an opening book. I would have only 2600+ elo, but there are not enough games out there. And awhile back when I added correspondence/email games in my pgn, I vaguely recall that the results were not improved, and may have retracted.
