Mike or someone said the adapter sends a "new" command for each move. that will (a) kill any pondering; (b) clear the hash table before each move making it impossible to pass things along from one search to another; (c) slow the search by clearing the pawn hash, making it necessary to do lots of extra pawn evaluations; etc...
