I think a good start is this:

There's quite a lot of links if you click on the "Computer Chess Resource
Center" and then "Computer Chess Links". Many of articles you can reach from
there cover parts of chess programming, which might be too specific at the
beginning though.

A good page for getting ideas is also Ed Schroeders page at
http://members.home.nl/matador/chess840.htm. But again, this is probably not
easy to understand at the beginning.
