The Smartboard will work with most programs including CM5500 and now CM6000 with a workaround but no one is selling the Smartboard anymore. The DGT board is probably the best now but it doesn't have any lights on the board telling you the program has moved. However many programs have beeps for telling you when the program has moved. It will work with Fritz 5, Junior 5, Crafty, Chess Genius version 4 and 5 and Chessmaster 5500. With the DGT and Shacom boards you can also connect to telnet sites and play directly from the board. Smartboard and DGT have automatic piece recognition for position setup. . The Shacom board is supposed to be good and compatible with most programs. but I don't know of any distributors in the WESTERN world. Another PC board is Chess 232. Chess 232 and Smartboard recognize most of the top programs. Most of these boards are in the $300- 400 U.S. price range although some have been discounted. The Mephisto PC Autoboard is also called the Kasparov PC Autoboard which is manufactured by Saitek. The Kasparov Mephisto PC Autoboard, is supported by Rebel 8 and 9 Genius 4, Zarkov, Fritz 3 and Kasparov's Gambit. There are differences in set up from the other boards.
